Mrs. Mary Giddins Justis of Parksley

MARY RONIE GIDDINS JUSTIS, beloved daughter of the late Ellison and Viola Giddins, was born on Thursday, September 14, 1922. She peacefully joined her husband, George, and her son, Dorsey, in heaven on Sunday, March 21, 2021.

Mary was educated in the Accomack County Public School system, graduating from Mary N. Smith High School in 1940.

At an early age, Mary gave her life to Christ. She was a faithful and devoted member of Metompkin Baptist Church in Parksley, Virginia. Her love for God shone through her work as an Usher, Deaconess, Missionary, Culinary Arts volunteer, and member of the Hospitality Committee. She believed in keeping God’s house spotless, fit for the King.

During her time on earth, Mary genuinely enjoyed her family. Her sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren were a blessing to her. She doted on each of them, making sure each of them knew how much she loved them. However, she had an affinity for her son, Fletcher, who took special care of her. Both of her sons were with her during her final days. Mary also loved her nieces and nephews, spending time visiting them and when she could, taking trips with them. Though a woman of very few words, you knew she loved you if she teased you, or offered you Honey Maid Graham Crackers when you visited her welcoming home.

Her marriage to George, which spanned decades, also brought her much joy and happiness. Their union was filled with lots of laugher and love. She took great care of him, and he made her smile. You could often hear her say, “George, get on away from here,” all the while laughing at his antics.

Mary will lovingly be remembered for her teasing, beautiful smile, baked tomatoes, her assurance that every family member received a Christmas gift, birthday cards that always contained money, bread, and butter sandwiches, and Honey Maid Graham Crackers.

In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, George; son, Dorsey “Chicken”; stepson, Bruce; daughters-in-law, Della, Pam, and Joann; granddaughter, Kimberly; and nephew, Ellison.

She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Fletcher and Bobby; stepdaughter, Bertha Lee Wilson; stepsons, Larry, Wayne, and Ron; daughters-in-law, Bernice, Maria, Virginia, and Cheryl; grandchildren, Carolyn Hyslop, Stephanie Fosque, Stacey Scott, Jeff Fosque, Tracey Custis, Tobias Custis, Rodney Wharton, Andre Wharton, RaShaun Wharton, and Felicia Perry; twenty-two great-grandchildren; eighteen great, great-grandchildren; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Private funeral services for Mrs. Mary Giddins Justis of Parksley, will be conducted Tuesday at 12 PM from the Chapel of Cooper &  Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac, with Evangelist Camesha Handy officiating. Interment will be in the Wharton Cemetery, Parksley. Arrangements by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
