Winter Storm Watch issued for Eastern Shore

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for Accomack and Northampton County beginning Friday evening through Saturday evening.

Heavy snow is possible with total accumulations of 6 to 10 inches with higher amounts possible locally. Snow fall is expected to begin on the Shore between 9 and 11 PM Friday evening, with the snow fall beginning first in northern Accomack County.

Northwest winds are predicted 30-35 mph and could also gust as high as 45 mph and a Gale Watch is in affect for the same time frame.

Heavy snow and possibility of drifting snow will create hazardous traveling conditions Saturday morning.

Strong winds can cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

Mariners should alter plants to avoid these conditions, remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter course.
