According to the Virginia State Police, the victim of the fatal accident this morning near Townsend on Rt. 13 has been identified.
Police said 49-year-old Kevin Turner, of Cape Charles, was traveling southbound on Route 13 on a moped when he lost control, ran the moped off the roadway and overcorrected.
When he overcorrected, he was ejected from the moped and landed in the median, dying on impact, . He was not wearing a helmet.
The 911 call came in at 5:15 a.m. of a crashRoute 13 near Townsend Drive. The first responders found a vehicle on fire and what appeared to be a motorcycle in the median.
Traffic on Route 13 was shut down for several hours, but VDOT said all lanes were reopened just before 11 a.m.
The moped was still in the roadway after the crash and was hit by a tractor-trailer, passenger vehicle and pickup truck.
The pickup caught on fire after it hit the moped.
No other injuries were reported.
Police said as of Wednesday afternoon, it was unknown whether alcohol contributed to the crash.
