UPDATED: Head on collision occurs in CBBT tunnel; Traffic stopped for 1 hr and 40 minutes Monday

Around 11:20 a.m. on June 7, a head-on collision involving three vehicles occurred in Chesapeake Tunnel on the CBBT. The vehicles involved include an SUV, a minivan and a sedan. The southbound SUV struck the western wall of the tunnel twice before veering into the northbound lane and striking the minivan head-on and impacting the eastern wall of the tunnel. The sedan was also traveling northbound before striking the rear of the other two vehicles. 

The scene was cleared around 12:45pm and the facility has been re-opened to traffic in both directions. 

Two victims have been transported by Virginia Beach Fire & Rescue to hospitals in Virginia Beach with non-life threatening injuries. Other minor injuries were treated at the scene.
