According to April Weston from Riverside, the complete demolition of the Nassawadox Hospital is expected to be complete by Spring of 2024. The outlying buildings on the campus were demolished first while the old Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital (RSH) was prepared for demolition. Demolition has begun on the old hospital and will continue until it is completely demolished; first, the wings of the old hospital that have a lower roof will be demolished followed by the demolition of the tower.
The demolition of the old Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital located in Nassawadox, Virginia, began in May 2023, and take approximately ten months to complete. We expect the project to be completed towards the end of Q1.
At the end of the demolition project, there will be a developable pad site. At that point in time, Riverside in partnership with the localities, will reevaluate next steps.
There were eight buildings on the campus and all but one, the maintenance shed, have been demolished. The maintenance shed will remain as is since it will be used to store important equipment to maintain the water tower and sewer. The water tower will continue to be maintained by Riverside and the sewer will be maintained by Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD).
