Two dead in Tuesday evening accident

A Tuesday evening accident has resulted in the death of two passengers.

According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya with the Virginia State Police, troopers are investigating the double fatality that has both northbound and southbound lanes of Route 13/Lankford Highway shutdown as of 8:00 PM Tuesday. The highway was blocked for over four hours while a crash reconstruction team investigated.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:16 p.m., at 16239 Lankford Highway, Nelsonia. Two vehicles involved, a 2021 Mazda CX30 and a 2021 Freightliner box truck. The driver of the Mazda, was transported to Riverside Shore.

The driver of the Freightliner was also transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition at this time.

Crash reconstruction Team has been called to the scene where they are currently actively investigating the crash. 

Traffic on Rt. 13 was heavy and traffic was rerouted through Bloxom via Turkey Run Road and up Seaside Road to Beartown Road.
