Friday night six fire stations were summoned to a fire on Fisher’s Court in Cheriton. Units from Cheriton, Eastville, Cape Charles, Nassawadox, Exmore and Painter responded at 8:56 p.m.
The Cheriton Vol. Fire Company were the first to arrive and reported smoke showing from all sides of the structure. All of the occupants of the residence self evacuated and were found to be safe. The fire was quickly brought under control but there was still heavy damage to the structure.
Firemen remained on scene for two hours making sure the fire was completely out. The blaze was reportedly started by a space heater.
