Missing Norfolk Kayaker Washes Ashore Alive Near Machipongo

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard concluded its search for a Norfolk man after he was located alive near Machipongo Sunday. Wesley Schoonmaker was discovered by a good Samaritan after Schoonmaker came ashore with his raft at a Machipongo beach near the person’s home and walked into their backyard. The good Samaritan called Eastern Shore 911 Dispatch who, along with an Accomack County sheriff’s deputy, notified the Coast Guard. Schoonmaker originally launched his raft near Willoughby Spit Saturday and said he was immediately blown away from the shore. Overnight he drifted north with his raft until he landed in Machipongo. Eastern Shore native Major Morgan has once again won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Play of the Week. Morgan’s catch via a pass from Alec Cobb against Shenandoah on November 4th has been announced as ODAC’s winner this week. Cobb put one up over top of SU’s defender and towards the outside shoulder. Onancock, VA – Riverside Hospice on the Eastern Shore operates three thrift stores located in Oak Hall, Onancock and Exmore. These three stores were acquired in 2016 when Riverside purchased Hospice and Palliative Care of the Eastern Shore. When these stores were acquired, their intent was to help provide additional funding for hospice services.
