A new water pipe was scheduled to be delivered to Tangier Island Friday and if all goes well, the water system on the island should be back up and running by the end of this week. Cold temperatures two weeks ago caused the main water pipe to burst draining the water tank. Since that time island residents have had to rely on donations of bottled water.

In an interview with WBOC TV, Tangier mayor Ooker Eskridge said “ Its very heartwarming. We keep getting calls and donations from people all over the shore. Locally, the Accomack Elks Lodge accepted bottled water donations and sent a shipment to Tangier on Saturday.

Tangier made it through the latest cold spell without any major difficulty.
