According to Deanna Austin of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, the State Water Control Board voted 6-0 last week to grant stormwater discharge permits to three northern Accomack County Poultry operations.   The applications were made in 2017 and a public hearing was held at Nandua High School on January 30, 2018.

Several opponents  spoke at the public hearing but few of them addressed the actual applications instead using their time to object to the building of new poultry houses in Accomack County.

The permit allows the owners to examine run off and visually determine if any solids are present. Objections were raised by opponents who said having a poultry farmer conduct his own analysis of run off wasn’t adequate.
