The Virginia State Police Communications Center was contacted by an on duty Trooper Thursday morning, advising that he had been involved in a motor vehicle accident.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:36 AM, in the southbound lanes of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel, outside of the second tunnel/tube.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the State Trooper, in his marked vehicle, was traveling southbound on Route 13 and exiting the second tunnel/tube, when a construction vehicle pulled out into his lane of travel. There was no room for the trooper to maneuver due to the limited space or without hitting traffic head on. The Trooper struck the rear end of the construction vehicle causing extensive damage to his patrol vehicle and suffering minor injuries.
At this time the reconstruction team is on-scene and continuing their investigation. Trooper was transported to Virginia Beach General.
