Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC), power supplier of A&N Electric Cooperative, announced the construction timeline for replacing the static wire that is located at the top of the poles above the transmission line(s). ODEC will replace 14.4 miles of static wire from the Tasley Substation in Tasley, Virginia south to the Kellam Substation outside Exmore, Virginia.
To meet reliability requirements, ODEC is replacing the static wire with new Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) which will enhance transmission system communication capabilities for the southern end of the Delmarva peninsula.

The replacement project will take place within ODEC’s existing rights‐of‐way (ROW) easements. Maintenance crews will coordinate ROW access with VDOT and adjacent property owners.

As Mike Wise, ODEC’s Senior Vice President of Power Supply, stated, “ODEC is committed to maintaining a resilient and reliable transmission system while protecting the environment in Accomack County and respecting the needs of the community.”

Tasley to Kellam Static Wire Replacement Project Construction Timeline:

  • September 2025: Construction begins
  • March 2026: Construction complete
