A fire at the Beebe Ranch on Chincoteague destroyed the historic Misty Barn. 911 received the call at 10:41 p.m Tuesday evening. Units from Chincoteague, Wallops, Atlantic, Greenbackville and Stockton responded. The barn is considered part of history on the Island. It originally housed Misty which became one of the primary economic forces driving the development of the tourist industry on Chincoteague. None of the horses on the ranch was injured in the blaze and there were no other injuries.
This is the second tragedy the Bebe family has endured. In May, Maureen Beebe passed away. Maureen was the last survivor of the family that started the Misty story and resulted in the Pony Swim becoming what it is today.
