The Frances B. Latimer African American Collection Planning Committee and the Center for Community & Family Development will be sponsoring an Oral History Contest beginning February 15 and ending March 15, 2018. The goal of the Oral History Contest is to deepen the understanding of students regarding the lives of their elders in the 20th century.  Any middle or high school student living in Northampton or Accomack County is eligible to participate.  Students are required to video or audio tape an interview with someone 50 years of age or older. There are a series of questions to start the conversation which should last 15-20 minutes. Prizes will be awarded to both student groups (Middle and High School) as follows:  $500.00 – First Place, $200 – Second Place, and $100 – Third Place.

A completed entry includes the contest entry form, a photograph of the interviewee and the interviewer, and an uploaded video or audio tape interview (A link to your video or audio tape can be provided via computer or may be submitted on a zip drive or DVD).  All entries must be completed and received by 5 pm on March 15, 2018. The review panel will be comprised of teachers, local historians, and members of the Planning Committee.  The award winners will be announced on March 26, 2018.
