Flooding has been reported on the bayside of the Eastern Shore and the seaside as well. High tide at Onancock was around 12 noon. High tide in Saxis will occur at approximately 1:30 p.m. Moderate tidal flooding has been reported. If you are traveling to any of our bayside communities be aware that the roads may be blocked.
According to Bryan Rush, the Town of Chincoteague’s Emergency Management Team is monitoring the potential for moderate salwater tidal flooding this evening.
High tide on Chincoteague will occur at 7:24 PM at Curtis Merrit Harbor and proceed towards the north end of the island through 9:45 PM.
Tidal flooding could begin as early as 6:00 PM and increase through the high tide cycle and should subside by 1:00 AM.
VDOT will monitor the causeway and will notify the Town approximately one hour prior to any closing. The Town will notify residents by CODE RED call system and WESR radio.
Citizens and visitors should not drive through any flooded road ways. If you must drive, please proceed slowly through any flooding as not to cause further damage to home, businesses and vehicles. Continue to monitor local radio.
