NELSONIA, Va.- State Police are now investigating a deadly fire that killed three people in Accomack County as an arson and homicide.

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Chesapeake Field Office says the fire occurred around 10:45 a.m. at a home near the 28000 block of Johnson Court in Nelsonia.

Officials say they recovered the remains of two adults and a child inside the mobile home. They say the home was completely destroyed in the fire.

The preliminary examination conducted Saturday by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Norfolk revealed that each of the three bodies recovered suffered additional injuries inconsistent with a fire.

The investigation into the cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation at this time.  However, officials say the fire doesn’t appear to be suspicious in nature.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is still working to positively identify the remains.
The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
