Mr. John Chandler, previously employed at Bayshore Concrete, was introduced as Northampton’s new Director of Finance Tuesday night at the supervisors meeting and welcomed aboard.

Chairman Murray and several supervisors suggested to Chandler that some of his first goals should be, no tax increase in the upcoming budget, improving teacher salaries, Department and County employees salaries, a review of the farm equipment tax, how to fund a new $30 million school, more consideration of the less fortunate elderly, removal of derelict buildings, and the creation of a website that is kept up to date on a daily basis.

County Administrator Charles Kolakowski assured supervisors that Chandler is ready to accept the challenges of public service as a welcome change. Chandler is a native Eastern Shoreman and graduate of Onancock High School.

Kolakowski also told the supervisors that the new Eastville Rural health complex is moving forward and that he was suggesting that they allow ANPDC to administer the $700,000 grant towards the health center. A motion and unanimous decision followed.

Kolakowski informed the supervisors that Verizon Wireless is putting new towers throughout the Eastern shore to provide better service. When Kolakowski was questioned how that would affect the internet, he stated that this was basically for wireless service but Next Edge Network has inquired about leasing space on the Northampton County water tower for improved Internet service.
