
Six giants of Broadwater athletics from yesterdays recent and far past were honored at halftime of the recent Homecoming victory versus Randolph Macon Academy. Broadwater was victorious in its contest, 44-15.
The six inaugural honorees are Coach Tom Davis ’77 (posthumously), Gunnar Gustafson ’20, Van Lewin ’11, Brook Browning Lusby ’82, Preston Richardson ’14 and Brian Rolander ’02. Coach Davis is a figure who cast a long shadow over the success of Broadwater football and was instrumental in coaching state championship and state runner-up teams. His legacy of dedication and commitment are well-known and inspire young athletes today. Gustafson, Lewin, Lusby, Richardson and Rolander were all standout multisport athletes of their eras, earning conference and state level honors and titles while at Broadwater. Lusby, Richardson and Rolander all had successful college athletic careers, with recognitions of leadership and athletic awards. They all continue to inspire today’s student athletes at Broadwater Academy.
