A Painter area man pleaded guilty Thursday in Accomack Circuit Court to armed burglary and armed robbery at the home of a Saxis Road resident in October of 2024.
Thirty-eight-year-old Cardell Thomas Mason Jr., of Boggs Road, was convicted of the crimes at the home of Gracie Milbourne.
The victim told authorities that she heard a bang at the rear entry of her residence that woke her from sleep at about 10:30 p.m. that night. She observed her bedroom door open as an uninvited male wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a face covering entered. He wielded a long-barreled firearm. He pointed the gun at her, she said. The woman observed a second uninvited male rummaging through her residence. After robbing her, they left the residence. Her cell phone was taken to prevent her from calling for help.
Counts of conspiracy were not prosecuted. Commonwealth’s Attorney Spencer Morgan said there was no plea bargain in the case.
In another case, Maximino Hernandez-Perez, of Parksley, was denied bond on misdemeanor counts of destruction of less than $1,000 worth of property and indecent exposure. The judge was reportedly concerned about Hernandez-Perez’s ability to appear in court since the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency has a hold on him. The incidents are alleged to have occurred on Oct. 14.
