Construction is now underway on a brand-new broadcast tower for WESR.
The station has teamed up with Verizon on the project, which replaces WESR’s 60-year-old tower with a brand-new, 365-foot structure.
Station owner Charlie Russell says the upgrade will help keep the Eastern Shore’s only locally owned radio station strong for decades to come. The new tower will also feature a modern antenna system and upgraded feed line.
The entire project is expected to take about a month. But don’t worry — Russell says any interruption to the broadcast should be minimal, with the actual switch-over only taking a couple of hours.
“Our new tower will ensure our broadcasts to the Eastern Shore continue for another generation. We will continue to serve the Eastern Shore of Virginia, the place our ownership and entire staff calls home, the community we have helped for almost 70 years,” he said.
