Hundreds of Eastern Shore residents are getting ready to take steps — literally — to fight Alzheimer’s disease.
This Saturday, October 11th, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s takes place at Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa.
Registration opens at 8:30 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 9:30, and the walk begins at 10 o’clock.
The event features the Promise Garden ceremony, a moving tribute where participants carry flowers in different colors — each one symbolizing their personal connection to the disease.
So far, 230 people on 20 teams have signed up, working toward a fundraising goal of $42,000 to support Alzheimer’s care, research, and awareness programs.
Organizers say it’s also a chance to shine a light on the growing impact of Alzheimer’s across Virginia and the challenges faced by caregivers and families.
