A Maryland man was sentenced to 18 months of active time in prison on Thursday in Accomack Circuit Court for forging about $4,500 in checks and breaking into his former workplace, Eastern Shore Marine, of New Church, in January 2025.

Thirty-seven-year-old Jerold Scott Ryan, of Old Ocean City Road in Parsonsburg,

was ordered to pay restitution for the forged checks. Evidence at the trial showed there was about $500 worth of damage to the building. He has already served about half of the term. After release, Ryan will be on supervised probation for two years. He will have more than 10 years of suspended time hanging over his head if he doesn’t maintain good behavior.

Ryan told Judge Lynwood W. Lewis Jr., “I regret what I did … there’s not very much I can do … I regret it. I want to get back to my life.”
