Governor Glenn Youngkin has announced more than six hundred thousand dollars in state tourism grants to help boost travel and visitor spending across the Commonwealth — especially during the slower seasons. One hundred and four local tourism programs across Virginia will share in more than six hundred twenty-five thousand dollars in matching-grant funds. The goal: to support marketing projects that drive travel between peak and off-peak seasons — helping small towns, local businesses, and attractions thrive year-round.

Governor Youngkin says Virginia’s record-breaking tourism numbers show just how powerful this industry can be in fueling economic growth statewide.

“These grants will help destinations and small businesses market themselves more effectively, welcome travelers year-round, and showcase the very best of Virginia — from outdoor adventures and historic treasures to great food and craft beverages,” Youngkin said.

The funding comes through three programs run by the Virginia Tourism Corporation — the Microbusiness Marketing Leverage Program, the VA250 Tourism Marketing Program, and the Vacation Starts with Virginia Co-op Program.

Together, the state grants — combined with local matching funds — will generate more than 1.3 million dollars in new marketing initiatives. In all, more than six hundred tourism partners across Virginia are expected to benefit.

Each program has a unique goal:

  • The Microbusiness Marketing Leverage Program helps small businesses with fewer than twenty full-time employees expand marketing during the shoulder season.
  • The Vacation Starts with VA Co-op Program supports destination marketing organizations with targeted advertising and research-driven campaigns.
  • And the VA250 Tourism Marketing Program builds excitement for the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence — highlighting Virginia’s role as the birthplace of the nation under the theme “America: Made in Virginia.”

On the Eastern Shore, several local programs are getting a share of the funding.

  • Sailfest Cape Charles will receive nearly ten thousand dollars to promote the event.
  • The Eastern Shore Tourism Commission is getting grants for a self-guided driving trail in central Accomack County and for social media promotion under the Vacation Starts with VA campaign.
  • Northampton County will receive ten thousand dollars for a “Hidden History Driving Tour,” and Onancock Main Street will get five thousand dollars for its “Experience Onancock — Virginia is for Small Town Lovers” tour.

Tourism is one of Virginia’s top economic drivers, and officials say these programs are designed to keep visitors coming — no matter the season.
