Ginnie Parks

Mrs. Virginia Mears “Ginnie” Parks, 88, of Chincoteague Island, VA, formerly of Hunting Creek, VA, was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior and into the arms of her beloved husband, Gladstone Parks on Sunday, September 7, 2025. 

Born February 21, 1937, at her family home in Hunting Creek, Ginnie was the eldest daughter of the late Adrian Warner Mears and Louella Budd Mears. Raised in a faithful Christian home, she grew up attending Calvary United Methodist Church, where Sundays were devoted to worship and family. As a lifelong member of Calvary UMC, Ginnie’s devotion to her church and her Lord remained constant throughout her life.

Ginnie had a warm and generous spirit, never met a stranger, and was always quick to share a kind word or helping hand. She loved deeply and wholeheartedly, especially when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Kathy Parks-Williams and her husband, Chet, of Chincoteague; sisters, Helen Mears Hall² and her husband, Richard, of Chincoteague and Mary Sue Ogburn of Hunting Creek; grandsons, Cameron Savage and his wife, Jenny and Chet Williams III; great-grandchildren, Anders and Delia Savage; and several nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Betty Mears Mumford and Margie Mears and great-granddaughter, Freya Savage. 

A service celebrating Ginnie’s life will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. – a date that would have marked her and Gladdie’s 69th wedding anniversary.
