A retired developer and contractor, Mr. Young built countless homes in Tidewater and on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. He served on the Parksley Town Council from 1984 to 1992 and then as Mayor from 1992 until 2007, the longest term in the town’s history. During his tenure he was responsible for negotiating grants and funding for the town’s wastewater system.
Mr. Young is survived by his wife Martha Coleburn Young; a brother, Richard W. Young and wife Margaret; three children, Ann Y. Justis, Robert W. Young and Thomas G. Young and a very special son-in-law, W. Clayton Justis. He was the proud grandfather of Thomas, Cole, Robert, Philip, Ann Holt, Grace and Mason and great grandfather of Penelope and Luca.
A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Sunday, Edgehill Cemetery, Accomac, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Strelitz Diabetes Institute, Norfolk, Virginia as he held hope for a cure for his wife and two of his children.
Arrangements are by the Thornton Funeral Home in Parksley.
