Peter Luis Lancho, 66, died August 17, 2024, as the result of a tragic accident. Pete, as he was known, was born on August 24,1957, in Havana, Cuba, to Jose Luis Lancho and Martha Abello Lancho.
Pete’s family fled Cuba when he was a toddler to escape the new political climate there, leaving their businesses and other possessions behind. They first lived in Guatemala for two years, then Miami, Florida, and then moved Chicago, Illinois, where Pete spent the rest of his childhood and early adulthood.
He lived in Florida for a time and later moved to Lexington, Kentucky, to be closer to family there, and established a small painting and remodeling business. His work eventually led him to Virginia’s Eastern Shore where he enjoyed living and working for more than two decades until his passing.
Pete loved living near the ocean and sharing the beauty and many other treasures of the Eastern Shore with family, especially his beloved mother, during their visits. His mother, sister, brother, sister-in-law and nephews loved hearing stories about his life in Virginia when he would visit them in Kentucky.
Pete could talk to anyone, anywhere, at any time. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed everything from watching college and professional sports, attending his nephews’ sporting and academic events, spending time at the beach, drinking his morning coffee, and even watching a good Hallmark movie. His many painting and remodeling projects are evident throughout the Eastern Shore, and he worked on a number of projects for family from time to time, too.
He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Carmen Van Balen Lancho; his brother and sister-in-law, Jorge and Susan Lancho; his nephews, Jonathan Van Balen, Evan Lancho and Joseph Lancho; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
The family invites Pete’s friends to stop by the deck at Mallards at the Wharf, in Onancock, VA, on Monday, August 26, 2024 any time between 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. They look forward to meeting his ESVA family and hearing your memories of Pete.
A Mass of Christian Burial is being scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Lexington, Kentucky, with interment at Calvary Cemetery in Lexington.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in his memory be made to Lexington Catholic High School, 2250 Clays Mill Road, Lexington, KY 40503, (Memo: Boys Soccer Locker Room Project).
