Bettie Jane Mears, 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Melfa, VA on May 17, 2025. Born March 7, 1939 in Bloxom, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Carlton “Laddie” Mears, Sr. and Marie Frances Taylor Miller and stepdaughter of the late Bill Miller.

Bettie was never seen without a smile and always brought light and joy to those around her. For more than 53 years, Bettie was the secretary for Associated Grain, Inc. where her spirit, work ethic, and friendship were invaluable to the Lewis family.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Frances Reece and her husband, Art, of Hamilton, OH; brothers, Billy Miller and his wife, Chris, of Franklinton, NC and Mark Lewis Miller of Melfa, VA; as well as several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she very much adored.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to Bettie’s caregivers and hospice nurses, all of whom provided excellent care.

Eastern Shore Custom Carts Spring Close Out Sale

Funeral services will be conducted from the chapel of Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at 1:00 p.m., with The Reverend Wayne Asbury and Chaplain Harvey Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Parksley Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
