Mr. Philip Douglas Fisher, 87 of Sanford, Virginia, husband of the late Barbara Spurley Fisher passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Nassawadox.

Born December 12, 1931 in Sanford, he was the son of the late Walter Jackson Fisher and the late Naomi Godwin Fisher. Phillip was a part of the former Fisher Brothers Oyster and Seafood Co., he worked as a truck driver, and was a dispatcher for Kellam Energy and Eagle Transport from which he retired. He then worked part time as a shell truck driver for Benny Hall. Phil was a proud US Navy Veteran, a fifty year member of the American Legion, and a member of the Sanford United Methodist Church. He had a great love for dogs, especially his late Boston Terrier, “Boss Baylee”.

Phil is survived by his step-daughter, Mida Haynes and her husband, Jim; several nieces, nephews and sister-in-laws.

Other than his wife and parents, Phil was preceded in death by two sisters, Arenthia and Elsie; three brothers, Jack, Lance and Mark; and his granddaughter, Leah, who passed away in 2015 and always referred to him as “PaPa Phil”.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, March 17, at 1:00 PM at the Sanford United Methodist Church, 23169 Belinda Road, Sanford, VA
