Mr. Floyd Townsend, Jr.

Floyd Michael Townsend, Jr., affectionately known to family and friends as “Mike,” entered this world on December 20, 2000, at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, Virginia. On June 1, 2026, he peacefully departed this life, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Mike was born to Floyd Michael Townsend, Sr. and the late Robin Marchelle Townsend. He received his education through Accomack County Public Schools and proudly graduated from Chincoteague High School in 2019. Following graduation, Mike answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. During his military career, he successfully completed three deployments and honorably served before retiring in 2024.

Mike’s foundation was built upon faith. Family often joked that he was “almost born in church.” As a child, he attended Kingdom Builders Outreach Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Emma Fisher. He loved the Lord and, although still growing in his spiritual journey, remained eager to learn and deepen his relationship with God.

Known as “The Miracle Baby,” Mike was the son his mother had long prayed for. Before he ever made his grand entrance into the world, he was already deeply loved and cherished. Mike was spoiled rotten, to say the least! He brought joy wherever he went and was known for his infectious smile, playful spirit, and ability to make people laugh.

Mike was a natural prankster from an early age. If his older sister, Keisha, dared him to do something, chances were he would do it without hesitation. She affectionately nicknamed him her “Little Cookie Monster” because no sugar cookie was safe whenever Mike was around.

As a child, Mike loved adventure. He could often be found exploring the woods, creating memories with family and friends, and turning ordinary days into extraordinary adventures. He loved dogs, his beloved chicken nuggets, and as he grew older, his Mustangs. Although he grew in age and stature, he never lost the youthful spirit that made him so special.

Mike especially treasured time spent with his nieces and nephews. He often stirred up playful disagreements among his nieces and nephews, only to sit back and laugh at the commotion he had created. Whether he was joking, teasing, or simply enjoying a movie night, he was happiest when surrounded by family. One of his favorite movies was Matilda, a film he could watch over and over again.

To know Mike was to know loyalty, kindness, and love. He had a way of making people feel welcomed and valued. If Mike loved you, you knew it. His heart was genuine, his laughter contagious, and his presence unforgettable.

Mike was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Robin Marchelle Townsend; his maternal Madge Taylor and Noah Harmon; and paternal grandparents, Grace Helen Townsend and Floyd William Townsend, Sr.; his aunt, Marlene Townsend; and his uncle, David Townsend.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his dear father, Floyd Michael Townsend, Sr.; his loving siblings, Lakeisha (Lonnie) Sanders of Princess Anne, Maryland; Chacarra (Monique) Townsend of Horntown, Virginia, Kurtis Blake of San Antonio, Texas; Chanté Townsend of Pocomocke City, Maryland; and Tierra Townsend of Norfolk, Virginia.

He also leaves several nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly and who were raised alongside him like siblings, including Jordan (Yan) Garcia, Jamal Schoolfield, Nyesha Dickerson, and his right hand girl Makiah Townsend.

Mike is further survived by his devoted aunts, Shirley Townsend of Horntown, Virginia; Ruth Townsend of New Castle, Delaware; Grenda (Pinie) Townsend Hudson (Reginald) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and Lisa Marshall of Princess Anne, Maryland. He also leaves behind his uncles, William (Debbie) Townsend of Arkansas, Mark Taylor of Pennsylvania, Lenard Taylor of Pocomoke City, Maryland, John Taylor of Atlantic, Virginia and George Taylor of Greenbackville, Virginia.

Mike also leaves a host of cousins, extended family members, military brothers and sisters, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Though our hearts are broken by his passing, we find comfort in knowing that Mike’s love, laughter, and legacy will live on in all who knew him. As we celebrate his life, we remember not only the man he became, but the joy he brought into the world simply by being himself. Mike’s memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who loved him.Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Townsend, Jr., affectionately known as “Mike”, of Horntown, will be conducted Saturday at 1:00 PM from St. John’s United Methodist Church,

Atlantic. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call on Friday from 4:00-5:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements by the Cooper & Humbles Funeral Co., Accomac.
