Mike George

Leslie Michael “Mike” George, 75, of Accomac, Virginia, passed away early Saturday morning July 11, 2026. Born on January 25, 1951, in Chatham, Virginia, Mike was the son of the late Leslie Warren George and Mary Frances Barbour George. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Lee Carson George, Sr. and Vera Smith George, and Samuel Moses Barbour and Janie Dalton Barbour.

Mike attended Climax High School before graduating from Gretna High School. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country for four years. Following his honorable discharge, he pursued his lifelong passion for art and was commissioned to create much of the artwork displayed throughout Kings Dominion prior to the park’s grand opening in 1975. He later relocated to Virginia’s Eastern Shore, where he was employed by Turner Sculpture in Onley until his retirement.

An extraordinarily gifted artist, Mike expressed his creativity through pencil sketches, oil paintings on canvas, and large-scale murals. His love of art was matched only by his passion for photography and the outdoors. He found joy in the beauty and simplicity of nature and was rarely without a sketchbook, camera, or pair of binoculars close at hand. Whether capturing a scene through his lens or bringing it to life on canvas, Mike possessed a remarkable ability to see and preserve the beauty in the world around him.

Mike is survived by two sisters, Virginia “Ginger” Gentry of Sutherlin, Virginia and Faye Cowan (Mason) of Chatham; a brother, Paul George of Temperanceville, Virginia; two nieces, Kimberley Murphy Hedge (Tom) and Lisa Cowan; and a nephew, Mason George. In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was predeceased by a sister, Reba Murphy, and a brother, Jerry Lee George.

A service in celebration of Mike’s life will be held at the Williams-Parksley Funeral Home on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 3:30 p.m., with The Reverend John Cullop officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home half an hour prior to the service.
