Kitty Bagwell

Mary Catherine Carpenter Bagwell, better known as Kitty, 93, wife of the late Healy L. Bagwell, Sr. and a resident of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Friday, June 13, 2025, at Commonwealth Senior Living at King’s Grant in Virginia Beach. A native of Birdsnest, VA, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Carpenter and the late Mary Gladden Carpenter. She was a homemaker, member of Bayside Baptist Church, loved being with her family, and listening to Jonathan Carpenter’s Sunday morning service from Exmore Baptist Church.

She is survived by two children, Healy L. “Lee” Bagwell, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of New Bern, NC, and Bryan Bagwell and his wife, Karen, of Virginia Beach; a brother, Kenneth Carpenter of Exmore, VA; four grandchildren, Jason Bagwell, Amy B. Fahrenholz, Chelsea Diana, and Andrew Bagwell; five great grandchildren: and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 19, 2025, at 11:00AM at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery. Family will join friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 4:00PM until 6:00PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Exmore Baptist Church, 11624 Occohannock Road, Exmore, VA 23350.
