Jean Taylor Parks of Onley

Jean Taylor Parks, 92, wife of the late Severn Thomas “Tommy” Parks, passed away peacefully Monday, April 26, 2021. Born June 22, 1928 in Clam, VA, she was the daughter of the late Vaden Taylor and Margie Thornes Taylor.

Jean’s greatest passion was caring for others, a trait that suited her 16 year career as a certified nursing assistant at the Hermitage on the Eastern Shore, as well as her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Jean was rarely idle, and even when sitting still, you’d find her crocheting or working in a puzzle book. For decades, she worked alongside her husband at his crab house and continued to do so into her 70’s. She attended Onley Baptist Church and enjoyed  listening to old hymns and reciting scripture.  

She is survived by her loving daughters, Diane P. Hendrickson of Hampton, VA and Linda W. Killmon and her husband, Phillip, of Onley; brother, Jimmy Taylor and his wife, Virginia; grandchildren, Tommy and Aaron Hendrickson, Billie Jean Miles, and Bobbie Lyn West; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth “Buddy” Taylor and son-in-law, Michael Hendrickson.

Funeral services will be conducted from the graveside at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 1:00 p.m., with The Reverend John Burr officiating.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nursing staff at Commonwealth Senior Living and Riverside Hospice, as they are forever grateful for the exceptional care and compassion provided to Jean.
