Elton “E.J.” Jackson Killmon Jr., a native of Pocomoke City, Maryland, rounded third and slid safely into home on December 7, 2024, at the age of 73. Surrounded by his loving family in Lewes, DE, E.J. completed a life filled with love, adventure, and a legacy that will echo for generations.
A natural-born MVP, E.J. approached life like a great game of baseball—full of patience, passion, and belief in the power of small, consistent plays. Whether pitching a tent under the stars, catching waves, or crafting a perfect garden, he found joy in the everyday and made every field better than he found it.
E.J. graduated from Pocomoke High School in 1969 and attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland. He spent 43 years with the Maryland Division of Parole & Probation, earning a reputation for fairness, humor, and compassion. Upon his retirement in 2017, he was honored for his exemplary service and dedication to giving others second chances.
In 1982, E.J. married Christine O. Killmon, and together they raised five children in Salisbury, MD. Their home was filled with laughter, adventure, and countless rescue dogs. After retirement, E.J. and Christine moved to Lewes, DE, where he shared his passions with friends and family, continuing to inspire with his endless curiosity and “Hall of Fame” humor.
In 2014, E.J. made national headlines when his high school class ring, lost for 45 years, was miraculously found in Brooklyn, NY. A lifelong Orioles fan, E.J. rooted for his team with the same loyalty he gave to his family, friends, and community. He believed in living with intention and heart, reminding everyone he met of their own unique value.
As Maya Angelou once said, “People will never forget how you made them feel.” E.J. made everyone feel like part of his team, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and inspiration.
E.J. is survived by his wife of 42 years, Christine, their five children—Meredith J. Paulsen (husband Brian, daughter Morgan), Jonathan Killmon (wife Chrissy, sons Kameron and Jacob), Megan Bounds, Michael “Mike” Killmon, and David Killmon (partner Jim Caso)—and three grandchildren who lovingly called him “Pop.” He also leaves behind his sister, Jacquelyn Lambro (son Jason, wife Susan, stepson Jacob Vigliotti), and cherished in-laws: Charlie O’Donnell (wife Debbie, daughter Emma), Jeanne Peteler (late husband Brian Sr., son Brian Jr.), and Joe O’Donnell (wife Nancy, sons Kolbe and Liam). His beloved dog Ellie will miss him deeply.
E.J. was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Elton “Jack” Jackson Killmon Sr.; in-laws, Charles and Roma O’Donnell; and his rescue dogs, including Tiny, Sam, and Rowdy.
May E.J.’s memory be a blessing. Let us honor his legacy by exploring the world, laughing often, and always swinging for the fences.
