A second-half scoring surge propelled the Northampton Yellow Jackets to their second Virginia High School League Class 1 State Championship in three years on Saturday afternoon, as they defeated Eastern Montgomery 7-1 at Salem High School.
The Yellow Jackets entered halftime tied 1-1, with a goal scored by Thomas Dix. But in the second half, Northampton caught fire with goals from Manny Montalvo, Luke Jones, Sebastian Mayorga, Eli Philpot, and two more from Dix, who completed a State Championship hat trick.
“I’m super proud of our program. Being part of a four-year state run was amazing, and walking away with two titles is just the best,” said Dix. “I love this team and Coach Baxa.”
