The Eastern Shore’s fishermen have two late spring flounder tournaments this year.

The first will be the 29th annual Capt. Zed’s Spring Flounder Tournament, held from Friday, April 26th to Sunday, May 5th. Based out of the Island House Restaurant and Marina in Wachapreague, the tournament offers a first prize of $2,500 cash, a second prize of $600, third prize of $300, 4th prize of $250 in Wachapreague Inn gift certificate, and a fifth prize in $100 Trident Tackle/Island House gift certificate. There are additional $500 prizes for junior and female anglers.

Entry fee is $40 with free tournament T-shirt to first 400 anglers.

The next will be the first annual Jim Shuty Memorial Doormat Classic will be held May 18 to May 25. There will be prizes for the first, second and third heaviest flounder caught in all Virginia waters.

Shuty was an avid outdoorsman who either placed in or won several local flounder tournaments. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to a local non-profit organization.

Prizes will be determined based on the number of entries. In the event of a tie, the flounder weighed first will be declared the winner.

Weigh stations will be located at Ocean’s East, Virginia Beach, Chris’ Bait and Tackle, Townsend and Eastern Shore Outfitters, Exmore. The entry fee is $40 per angler and includes a T-shirt.
