In last night’s Eastern Shore District championship game, the Chincoteague Ponies brought home the title winning 49-44.
The Ponies lead scorer was Senior Caroline Thornton, who scored her 1,000th point. Thornton came into the game with 999 points and finished with 23 points. Thornton is the daughter of Travis and Anette Thornton. Also scoring for the Ponies were sophomore Caroline Shelley with 10, junior Alanna Hall with 10 and Emma Jackson with 4.
The Yellow Jackets were lead by Maeyanna Delk who also had 23, as well as Emari Taylor with 5, Brianna Bochman with 4, Jada Giddens with 4.
The Lady Ponies are now 13-4 on the season and finished this year 9-1 in district play. This is their second consecutive District Title.
The Lady Ponies move on to regional competition Monday night when they will play the winner of the Essex/Middlesex game.
The Yellow Jackets will host Sussex Central Friday night at 5:00 p.m.
The boys Northampton Yellow Jackets won the district title with a tight contest defeating Nandua 61 to 57.
The Yellow Jackets scoring was lead by Jeremiah Major who finished with 16 points, Vonte Coston with 15 and Kasai Clark with 10.
The Warriors’ Gerald Pitt finshed with 16 points, while Brendan Sampson and Cody McGregor scored 11, and Tremere Sumerville had 5.
The Yellow Jackets sill host Northumberland in the District 2A quarterfinals tentatively at 7:00 p.m. at Eastville.
Nandua will travel to King William Friday night. That game gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
In other sports action, Arcadia girls will travel to Goochland Friday night at 6:00 PM. The Nandua plays at King William Friday night at 7:30 and the Arcadia boys will play at Bruton at 7:00 PM Friday.
