On Saturday, October 25, Chincoteague Island pickleball players held their third annual Picklepalooza, a charity fundraiser in memory of Leilani Brown, an avid pickleball enthusiast and member of the Eastern Shore community who passed away in 2023.
Fifty players from the Shore competed in a mixed doubles round robin-style tournament using both the outdoor and indoor courts on Chincoteague. A potluck for players and spectators was held afterwards. The groups raised over $5,100 for Village Neighbors through donations and a raffle.
Village Neighbors of Chincoteague helps is members – older Island residents – maintain active, independent lifestyles in the place they call home, by providing volunteer services to assist these seniors with light household tasks, shopping and errands, on- and off- Island transportation or a friendly call or visit.
