10 veterans participated in a successful goose hunt over the weekend on the Easter Shore as part of a trip organized by a non-profit who takes veterans and active duty service members on hunting and fishing trips.
According to RJ Hasty, The Fallen Outdoors is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization entirely run by Active Duty and Veteran Service Members who volunteer their time and skillset to help get Service Members (able-bodied and disabled, Active-Duty or Veteran Status) outdoors doing what they love but may not be able to do, due to change of duty stations or other various reasons.
October 21st was Virginia’s 2023 Veteran/Youth Waterfowl special hunt day.
“I am a pro staff member for the fallen outdoors, I put together hunting and fishing trips to get veterans outdoors, I recently retired July 1st 2022 from the United states coast guard and started volunteering as a pro staff member for the fallen outdoors team Virginia. I’m pretty much the representative for the Eastern Shore. I run majority of the hunts on my property or with my own boat, however FHA Hunt Club in Wachapreague has hosted a couple hunts for The Fallen Outdoors,” said Hasty. “We really would love to work with landowners or other hunt clubs to be able to get run more trips to give veterans more opportunities to get outdoors hunting and fishing.”
If you want to help by hosting a hunting or fishing trip or if any active duty service members or veterans are interested in learning more about the organization visit Team Virginia’s Facebook page or give Hasty a call at 757-894-2524.
