Broadwater Academy graduate Taylor Major, a junior on the Virginia Wesleyan University basketball team, had one of his best games last week in a win over Bridgewater.
Major, who at 6-feet, 4-inches tall sees time at both guard and forward, scored six points in 12 minutes of action during Wesleyan’s 88-52 win.
He is one of three team captains of the Marlin hoop squad.
The son of April Major of Parksley and John Major of Exmore, he’s more than just a student-athlete.
Major also is the student body president at Virginia Wesleyan, is a resident advisor in his dormitory and holds three part-time jobs.
Major is the only member of the basketball team to serve in student government at the university. Last year Major was sophomore class president and this year was voted to the top elected post among all students.
Major said the biggest difference in high-school and college basketball is “everyone is pretty solid. You’ve got to treat it as though everything has started over.”
“Regardless of what you did pre-college, you’ve still got to come here and work,” he said.
