Shore athletes compete in Arcadia’s All-Comers Track Meet

Track and field athletes from across the Eastern Shore competed Saturday at the Arcadia All-Comers Meet, with several state-qualifying marks, personal bests, and team victories highlighting the day.

Nandua High School led the way in several events. Jayniah Bailey had a stellar outing, winning the girls 400-meter dash (1:09.79), placing second in the 100 meters, and finishing sixth in the 200. She also anchored the Warriors’ winning 4×800-meter relay team. Teammate De’Asia Jones placed second in the 200 meters and third in the 100.

In the hurdles, Jassuri Galo-Vasquez claimed second in the 300-meter hurdles, while Keira Wheatley cleared 5 feet 4 inches in the high jump — tying for first and earning a state-qualifying mark. In the throws, Cherniya Sample took second in the shot put, and Trinity Stern’s 87-foot effort in discus secured second place.

On the boys’ side, Elijah Parker placed second in the 100-meter dash, while Amari Scarborough and Oberto Jean finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200. Arnoldson Destine won the boys’ 400 meters in 57.66 seconds.

Arcadia High School, hosting the meet, saw several first-place finishes. Lavor Johnson claimed victories in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes, asserting himself as one of the area’s top sprinters. Kemoni Brown finished second in the 400 and contributed to Arcadia’s win in the 4×400-meter relay.

Makiyah Davis scored in multiple events, including hurdles and long jump. Jemelia Reed took second in the 100-meter hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles. Coriyanna Sample and Alionna Beckett added points in sprints and jumps, while the girls’ 4×400-meter relay team crossed the line first in 6:14.71.

Chincoteague High School’s Makoa Busquets turned in strong sprint performances, placing third in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Emmabelle Jorgensen brought home a win for the Ponies in the girls’ 800 meters with a time of 3:04.36.

Broadwater Academy had a standout meet thanks to Leah Smith, who won the pole vault, triple jump, and shot put, and took third in the high jump. Sofia Rader added a win in the 300-meter hurdles and a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. Miranda Smith placed well in the long and triple jumps.

Northampton High School’s Rylee Coates had a dominant showing, winning the girls’ 100-meter hurdles in 15.45 seconds — a state-qualifying time — and tying for first in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet 4 inches, also qualifying for states.
