
The Chincoteague Ponies varsity football team opened their season with a 21-7 road victory over Fuqua School in Farmville on Friday, August 22.
Running back Camaury Davis powered the Ponies’ offense, rushing for 145 yards on 19 carries and scoring all three of the team’s touchdowns. Quarterback Jeremiah Downing added 117 passing yards, including one touchdown pass. Garrett Daisey contributed 38 rushing yards on four carries, while Jermain Logan Jr. had 20 yards on seven carries.
On defense, middle linebacker Garrett Daisey led the way with 12 tackles, nine of them solo, to help contain Fuqua’s ground game. Makoa Busquetts recorded nine tackles and one interception, while Andrew Davis had seven tackles and a half sack. George Katsetos made six solo tackles and an interception.
Other defensive highlights included Camaury Davis with four tackles, Micah Bennicof with four tackles, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, and Fred Gers with three assisted tackles and a half sack.
The Ponies will host the Broadwater Academy Vikings Thursday evening.
