The Chincoteague Ponies baseball team hosted the Northampton Yellow Jackets on Wednesday afternoon. The Ponies won the game by a score of 16 to 12. Landon Easton started on the mound for the Ponies and earned the win, pitching 4 innings and giving up 9 runs on 6 hits while striking out 6 batters. Brayden Downing started for the Yellow Jackets and took the loss.
Offensively, the Ponies recorded 13 hits as a team, while the Yellow Jackets tallied 11. B. Roberts went 2-for-5 with a home run and 5 RBIs for Chincoteague. Jermaine Logan also hit a home run, going 2-for-4. Bryce Luck, Kent Reed, and Landon Easton each contributed 2 hits. For Northampton, Brock Leland led the offense, going 3-for-5 with a home run and 5 RBIs. Porter Spence had an impressive outing, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles. Lucas Kindt added two hits.
The Chincoteague Ponies improve to 4-4-1 on the season and will return to action next Wednesday against Holly Grove. The Yellow Jackets fall to 1-5 and will next play at Mathews on Wednesday.
The Nandua Warriors traveled to Norfolk Christian on Wednesday afternoon and lost a close game by a score of 6 to 5. Aiden McIntyre started on the mound and received a no-decision after pitching 4 1/3 innings, allowing 1 unearned run on 2 hits while striking out 6. Austin Wert came on in relief and was charged with the loss.
Offensively, the Warriors had 9 hits. Jordan Snead went 2-for-4 with two doubles and 4 RBIs. Hayden Williams also went 2-for-4 and drove in one run.
The Warriors fall to 4-4 on the season and will return to action next Wednesday as they travel to play Salisbury Christian.
