The Northampton Yellow Jackets volleyball team hosted the Chincoteague Ponies on Tuesday night and came away with a straight-set victory, winning 3 games to 0 on Senior night. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improved to 6-4 on the season and remain unbeaten in district play at 3-0.
Before the match, Northampton honored six senior players for their dedication and leadership throughout their high school volleyball careers.
Abby Zodun led the Yellow Jackets with 6 aces, 4 kills, 11 assists, 6 digs, and a block, while fellow senior Rylee Coates tallied 3 aces, 6 kills, 7 digs, and a block. Hailey Dinwiddie added 3 aces and 7 kills, and Dani Fonseca contributed across the board with 2 aces, 4 kills, 8 assists, and 7 digs.
Jade Collins recorded 3 kills and 11 digs for Northampton, while Macy Futterer chipped in an ace and 4 digs. Rounding out the Ponies’ defensive effort were KeAsia Doughty with 2 kills and 2 digs, Tegan Gerber with an ace, assist, and 4 digs, and Brelyn Coates with 2 digs.
Northampton will be back in action on Thursday as they host the Nandua Warriors.
The Chincoteague Ponies fell to 3-12 overall and 2-1 in district play. They will look to bounce back on Thursday when they host the Arcadia Firebirds.
In other district action, the Nandua Warriors hosted the Arcadia Firebirds on Tuesday afternoon and earned a 3-1 victory. The win moves the Warriors to 1-9 on the season and 1-2 in district play. Nandua will travel to Northampton on Thursday for their next match.
Arcadia dropped to 0-11 overall and 0-3 in district competition and will return to action Thursday as they travel to Chincoteague.
