Nandua swim makes waves at latest championship meet

The Nandua High School swim team made waves at their latest championship meet, with the boys team capturing first place and the girls team securing an impressive second-place finish.

The Nandua boys dominated the competition, finishing with 412 points, well ahead of second-place Poquoson (296) and third-place Bruton (285). Their success was fueled by outstanding individual performances and strong relay results.

Boys Team Highlights: The team showed exceptional strength in relays, winning both the 200-yard medley relay (Zachary Smith, Camden Lewis, Lucas Calvetti, Austin Wert) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (Elliott, Calvetti, Smith, Wert, Lewis). They added a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Stern, Elliott, Williams, Shotwell).

Individual Standouts:

Lucas Calvetti: 1st in 200-yard freestyle, 3rd in 100-yard butterfly
Austin Wert: 1st in 100-yard freestyle, 3rd in 50-yard freestyle
Camden Lewis: 1st in 500-yard freestyle, 2nd in 200-yard IM
Jason Stern: 2nd in 200-yard freestyle, 4th in 500-yard freestyle
Parker Shotwell: 2nd in 100-yard backstroke, 4th in 200-yard IM
Zachary Smith: 3rd in 100-yard backstroke
Hayden Williams: 4th in 100-yard breaststroke

Girls Team Success: The Nandua girls demonstrated remarkable depth, scoring 438 points and finishing just 10 points behind champion Bruton (448). Their relay teams excelled with a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Penland, Bays, Holt, Johnson) and third-place finishes in both the 200-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay (Charnock, Bentley, Thornes, Bacchi).

Individual Achievements:

Sarah Bentley: 1st in 100-yard breaststroke, 4th in 100-yard butterfly
Summer Charnock: 3rd in 200-yard freestyle, 3rd in 500-yard freestyle
Lexi-Mae Thornes: 3rd in 50-yard freestyle, 5th in 100-yard freestyle
Chloe Bacchi: 4th in 200-yard freestyle, 4th place in 100-yard breaststroke
Morgan Johnson: 4th in 200-yard IM, 5th in 100-yard breaststroke
Maddy Askew: 5th in 200-yard IM

The combined performance of both teams has solidified Nandua’s position as one of the region’s swimming powerhouses. The Warriors will continue their season at the state championships, scheduled for Saturday, February 22nd, at SwimRVA in Richmond.
