Baseball
The Nandua Warriors baseball team played Nottoway at Lancaster on Friday night and earned a narrow 10–9 victory. Hayden Williams got the start on the mound but did not factor into the decision. Aiden McIntyre picked up the win in relief, pitching 4 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on no hits while striking out 11.
Offensively, the Warriors recorded three hits. McIntyre, Williams, and Gregory Lessard each had one hit. McIntyre led the team with four RBIs, and Williams added three.
The Warriors improved to 2–0 on the season and will return to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Middlesex.
The Northampton Yellow Jackets traveled to Franklin on Friday afternoon and earned a dominant 16–1 win. Trent Ferebee started on the mound and picked up the win, striking out five batters in two innings of work. Ferebee also had a strong performance at the plate, going 3-for-3.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 1–1 on the season and will return to action Monday when they host Lancaster.
The Broadwater Vikings hosted Norfolk Collegiate on Friday afternoon and came away with a 10–5 victory. Izad Tountas started on the mound but did not factor into the decision. Eli Destro earned the win in relief, pitching the final three innings and striking out five.
Cohen Kellam led the offense, going 3-for-4. Destro went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, while Jacob Seltzer added two hits, including a triple.
Softball
The Nandua Lady Warriors traveled to Washington on Friday afternoon and earned a commanding 24–0 win. Kylie Kilmon started on the mound and picked up the win, pitching five shutout innings, allowing two hits, and striking out 13.
Offensively, the Lady Warriors tallied 20 hits. Kilmon went 5-for-5 with a home run and a double. Amirrah Church added three hits, including a triple and a double, while Peyton Truckner also collected three hits.
The Lady Warriors improved to 1–1 on the season and will return to action Tuesday when they host Lancaster.
The Arcadia Lady Firebirds hosted Kent Island on Friday afternoon but fell in a high-scoring game, 22–14. Brinlee Kauthen got the start on the mound and was charged with the loss. She pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing seven runs (two earned) and striking out six.
Arcadia managed three hits on the day. Peyton Taylor, Megan Montross, and Olivia Lynch each contributed one.
The Lady Firebirds dropped to 1–1 on the season and will return to action Tuesday when they host Nansemond River.
The Northampton Lady Yellow Jackets traveled to Franklin on Friday afternoon and fell by a score of 21–10. Hailey Dinwiddie took the loss in relief.
Ryleigh Caison went 3-for-3 with two doubles, while Miracle Brandon added a home run.
The Lady Yellow Jackets fell to 0–2 and will return to action Monday when they host Lancaster.
