Scoring 1,000 points in a high school basketball career is a rare feat on the Eastern Shore. But for one Broadwater family, it’s now a tradition.
Senior Leah Smith of the Broadwater Lady Vikings cemented her place in history Friday night, sinking a third-quarter three-pointer that pushed her past the 1,000-point mark. Her milestone moment helped lead the Vikings to a 35-26 victory over Denbigh Baptist.
Watching from the sidelines was someone who knew exactly how it felt—her father, Phillip Smith. Now an assistant coach for the team, Phillip achieved the same honor 30 years ago while playing for Broadwater in the early ’90s.
Leah, the daughter of Phillip and Lori Smith of Exmore, joins a select group of high school hoopers who have reached the prestigious milestone. But what makes it even more special is that she and her father now share a legacy that spans generations.
