Preparing for the second of back-to-back road conference games, Virginia Tech football heads to the Bay Area for a matchup with Stanford. The Hokies will face the Cardinal for the first time as members of the ACC. The West Coast matchup is slated for Saturday, Oct. 5 at Stanford Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET.
Stanford, a founding member of the Pacific Coast Conference which became the Pac-12, officially joined the Atlantic Coastal Conference on Aug. 2, 2024. Stanford was one of three programs involved in the conference realignment, as SMU and California joined the ACC, expanding the league to 18 teams. The Hokies are slated to be the third ACC team the Cardinal has faced this season after meetings with Syracuse and Clemson in the last two weeks.
Saturday’s contest will be the first time Virginia Tech football and Stanford will face off in the regular season. Overall, it marks only the second meeting ever for the two programs. The Hokies and the Cardinal’s first matchup occurred in 2011 during the Orange Bowl, with Tech ranked 12th and Stanford ranked 5th. This weekend’s contest offers some interesting storylines as it will be the first regular season matchup for the program and the first as conference mates.
