After a road trip to New York, Virginia Tech football returns home for the Stripe Effect game against No. 19 Clemson. The Hokies will host the Tigers on Saturday, Nov. 9, on Worsham Field at Lane Stadium, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
In the absence of star running back Bhayshul Tuten, redshirt junior Malachi Thomas was presented with a major opportunity at Syracuse. Thomas played his highest snap count (47) of the season, which was more than double his average opportunities through eight games. The Hartwell, Georgia product took full advantage of the snaps, leading the running back room in carries, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and scoring a 15-yard rushing touchdown. Thomas can be in line for an increased workload as Tuten works back to full health.
Another tailback who saw significant snaps in Tech’s backfield against the Orange was redshirt freshman Jeremiah Coney. In his second season, Coney has appeared in eight games this season after redshirting in 2023. The Richmond, Virginia native showcased his big play ability, ripping off runs of 25 yards and 47 yards. Coney finished the outing with a career-high 96 yards on just nine carries and provided Hokie Nation a glimpse of his potential.
