Hokies head on the road against #7 Miami in Friday night matchup

With nonconference play in the rearview mirror, Virginia Tech football looks to open ACC play on a high note against No. 7 Miami. The Hokies and Hurricanes will meet for the first time in two seasons after 31 straight annual matchups. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET at Hard Rock Stadium.

The Hokies are 2-2 so far this season.

Tech and Miami (Fla.) have a storied history that dates back to their time in the Big East. The Hokies and the Hurricanes played one another every year from 1992 to 2022. Across the 31 matchups, the head-to-head records are relatively split, with Tech winning 15 matchups and a five-game win streak from 1995 to 1999. Overall, the programs have faced off 40 times, and the 41^st matchup bodes as an intriguing matchup.

With Miami slotted in the top 10, it marks another matchup where at least one program is ranked. Saturday’s contest will be the 28^th meeting with a ranked team and the first since 2020. Interestingly enough, from 1999 to 2005, both teams were ranked in the top 25, and six matchups included a program with a top three ranking.
