The Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) is reminding hunters that portable treestands must be removed from Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) by January 31. Treestands that are not permanently affixed are permitted during the hunting season but must be taken down before this deadline to comply with state regulations.
It is also unlawful to construct, maintain, or occupy any permanent treestands on DWR-owned lands, National Forest lands, and properties owned or controlled by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. These regulations are in place to protect public lands and ensure they remain accessible and safe for all users.
Hunters using portable treestands are strongly encouraged to wear a full-body safety harness while hunting to reduce the risk of injury.
By following these guidelines, hunters can help preserve public lands for future generations while ensuring their own safety.
